A warm welcome awaits you. Velvet Amsterdam provides comfortable, quality private rooms for visitors who want to stay on a beautiful spot in the heart of Amsterdam. The rooms are on the first floor of our four floor apartment in a canal house, which dates from 1930. We have two rooms available: The canal view room is situated at the front of the building overlook one of the oldest canals in Amsterdam panoramic views has a lovely canal view, this room has also air-conditioning.
The rear room is situated quiet part of the building spacious and comfortable. Each room has its own private on-suite shower and toilet and a quality King-Size beds. The rooms are cozy, yet elegant, spacious and comfortable. Each room is designed with the environment in mind. For example, large windows help to bring the outdoors inside. We offers many services such as free WI-FI in your room, a free map, a TV with cable television, a mini fridge and coffee and tea facilities. We will be happy to help you if you need any additional services or information. You will get a set of keys so you can go in and out at any time.
Our home is located on Oudezijds Voorburgwal 10 in the old, medieval town Centre of Amsterdam, only a 5 minutes’ walk from Amsterdam Central Station. Lots of attractions are within a short walking distance, like Dam Squire, the Flower Market, Kalverstraat with all the shops, Nieuwmarkt and the Red Light District. From Central Station you can take local trams and buses and national and international train services tram and metro. Museum Square (Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and Van Gogh museum) can be reached within 10 minutes by tram number 2 or 5 or in 30 minutes walking. The Anne Frank House is a 15 minutes’ walk. The location is perfect to explore the city.
The Oudezijds Voorburgwal was dug between 1342 and 1380 and is one of the oldest canals of Amsterdam. The canal used to be called Fluwelen Burgwal (Velvet Rampart), referring to the wealthy families that lived here, usually dressed in velvet as a sign of wealth. Almost all the housed have been restored to their original condition. Beautiful examples are the Leeuwenburgh (Lion Fortress) House, just next door. Only a few steps further is Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder (Museum Our Lord in the Attic). A uniquely preserved seventeenth-century house from the Dutch Golden Age with an entire catholic church in the attic. This Catholic church dates from 1663, when it was prohibited to celebrate mass.
